Ivan Toney, happy with his new squad?

Ivan Toney, the Northampton Town forward who recently moved to the Newcastle United on a “long term deal,” has now started his training with the latter at the St. James Park stands.

“We have been very impressed with Ivan already,” said the Magpies football development manager Peter Beardsley. “He is a very good player, with great enthusiasm and a first-class attitude, and has all the attributes to have a bright future at the club.”

The forward, who has played 60 times for the Cobblers and has a total score of 13 goals after having passed their youth ranks, may either be on the development squad this season or sent on a loan. But there’s also a possibility that he could be included in the first team.

In his first official interview with the NUFCTV, Toney said, “I’m just looking to play football – wherever I am. (The) Under-21s, first team, coming off the bench making an impact, or going out on loan. If that’s what I have to do then I’m willing to do that. As long as I’m playing football then I don’t mind what I’m doing.”

He seems impressed with his new teammates, saying that the players of the Magpies are a great standard, going so far as admitting his admiration to the squad’s forward Ayoze Perez. He stated that Perez is a great player and that he’s quite speechless after watching clips of his performances and goals.

The 19 year old admitted that it’s not easy to join a new team and work with new players. But he said that it’s really up to the new player to show what he’s got and get himself into the first team.

Otherwise, Toney is only happy and very excited to be a part of the Magpies.

In his last season with the Cobblers, he managed to rack up forty-four appearances in all competitions and with a score of ten goals.
